"Waiting on" Wednesday (5)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by the awesome Jill at Breaking the Spine where we all feature upcoming books we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm waiting on...

A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2)

A Million Suns (Across The Universe #2) by Beth Revis

Hardcover, 400 pages

Expected publication: January 10th 2012 by Razorbill (first published January 1st 2012)

Blurb (taken from Goodreads):

"Godspeed was fueled by lies. Now it is ruled by chaos.

It's been three months since Amy was unplugged. The life she always knew is over. And everywhere she looks, she sees the walls of the spaceship Godspeed. But there may just be hope: Elder has assumed leadership of the ship. He's finally free to enact his vision - no more Phydus, no more lies.

But when Elder discovers shocking news about the ship, he and Amy race to discover the truth behind life on Godspeed. They must work together to unlock a puzzle that was set in motion hundreds of years earlier, unable to fight the romance that's growing between them and the chaos that threatens to tear them apart.

In book two of the Across the Universe trilogy, New York Times bestselling author Beth Revis mesmerizes us again with a brilliantly crafted mystery filled with action, suspense, romance, and deep philosophical questions. And this time it all builds to one mind-bending conclusion: They have to get off this ship."

Why I Want To Read This Book:

As if the cover is not enough motivation! *wink*

I recently participated in a Read-Along event hosted at the Secret of the Stars blog (a blog devoted solely to Beth Revis' novel, Across The Universe, and now its sequel, A Million Suns.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Read-Along and found myself drawn in by the story of Elder and Amy. The end of Across the Universe did not, thankfully, end on a cliffhanger (so I wasn't exactly pulling my hair out and suffering withdrawal symptoms once I was finished) but this is another book my mum and I read together and discussed in great detail. She's more interested in seeing the development of Amy and Elder's romance and, while I am also curious about that, I'm interested to see how Godspeed fares under Elder's rule. I imagined a scenario of complete chaos once the citizens were brought to full awareness but, from the glimpse I got at the end, things didn't look too bad.

Here's hoping for the best...!

I just wish January 10th would hurry up and get here already!

Until next week! :)

Crossed by Ally Condie

Hardcover, 384 pages

Expected publication: November 1st 2011 by Dutton Juvenile

Blurb (from Goodreads):

"The hotly awaited second book in the dystopian Matched trilogy.

In search of a future that may not exist and faced with the decision of who to share it with, Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky - taken by the Society to his certain death - only to find that he has escaped, leaving a series of clues in his wake.

Cassia's quest leads her to question much of what she holds dear, even as she finds glimmers of a different life across the border. But as Cassia nears resolve and certainty about her future with Ky, an invitation for rebellion, an unexpected betrayal, and a surprise visit from Xander - who may hold the key to the uprising and, still, to Cassia's heart - change the game once again. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever."

Why I want to read this book:

After reading Matched by Ally Condie, I can say with complete certainty that this is the most anticipated sequel of the year for my mother and I. Cassia's and Ky's starcrossed romance has left us spellbound and practically attacking the mailman to see if our copy has arrived in the mail, in the hopes that the release date has been moved forward. *sigh* If only...

What are you waiting on this week?

Why I Love Wednesdays... Waiting on Wednesday

I've only recently started to blog and have taken to participating in the "Waiting on Wednesday" meme hosted by the lovely Jill @ Breaking The Spine. I find it so exciting being able to share my eager anticipation for books on my wish list (many of which have yet to be released) with other equally enthusiastic bloggers out there. It also helps expose me to new books out there, as I've never heard of many of the books listed by other bloggers. It's also a great way to make new friends, have great bookish discussions, gain new followers and share the bookish love. Kudos to Jill for creating this brilliant meme! I look forward to many more:)

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

Hardcover, 256 pages

Blurb (taken from Goodreads):

"Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18B. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting itWho would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Why I want to read this book:

Firstly, I can’t recite the title without stumbling over the words *blush*. You should try it! It actually gets funny after a while.

Secondly, it sounds so scientific and mathematical- as if love at first sight is viewed as an occurrence that can be calculated and predicted. I’m not big on math, but I’ve had to do a fair share of stats courses at university, so the title certainly intrigued me.

Thirdly, the title and blurb suggest the hand of fate being heavily involved in this little love story and so, since I’m a big believer in the power of destiny, fate and God’s will (and also a true romantic at heart) I’m eager to read about fate bringing two people together through what initially appears to be an act of pure coincidence. It just shows how a few seconds can change your life!

Fourthly, the male love interest is British (swoon-worthy British accents, anyone?) and that’s enough to get me interested. After all, who can resist a charming English lad?

Fifth and finally, I love airports! They make for such interesting places to meet new people, observe their interactions, speculate on their relationships and life stories, where they’re headed to, what has made them the way they are (this is the Psychology student in me speaking, by the way) and so many other fascinating aspects of human nature can be closely examined within an airport setting. Also, be it due to the fear of travelling in airplanes or the excitement of going on holiday, airports tend to make people more open and friendly, relaxed and willing to interact more freely (and divulge way too much about themselves in some cases!) so I can’t help but be incredibly excited about getting my hands on a copy of this one. I’m so envious of all the lucky bloggers who were able to obtain ARCs of this one before its release date next year. Although I can’t help but be thankful that they received their copies, because it is only through reading their reviews that my excitement has steadily built. This book can’t get released soon enough!

Until next week! J

“Waiting On” Wednesday (2)

This week I’m waiting on...

Torrent (River of Time # 3) by Lisa T. Bergren

Blurb (taken from Goodreads):

"When Gabi and Lia finally learn to surf the river of time, they realize they must make hard choices about life and love in the third and final book in the River of Time series.

Gabi and Lia Betarrini have learned to control their time travel, and they return from medieval Italy to save their father from his tragic death in modern times. But love calls across the centuries, and the girls are determined to return forever—even though they know the Black Plague is advancing across Europe, claiming the lives of one-third of the population. In the suspenseful conclusion of the River of Time series, every decision is about life … and death. "

Why I want to read this book:

I haven’t as yet managed to get a copy of Cascade (the second book in the series, after reading and falling in love with Waterfall), but since I’ve been hearing so much about this Lord Greco character who’s apparently more swoon-worthy than Marcello, I am very keen to get my hands on a copy of this book as well. I really hope I can complete my set with the acquisition of Cascade and then Torrent very soon. Oh! And I’ve heard that there’s a potential fourth book in the series! How awesome is that? Any guesses on what the title will be?

Waiting on Wednesday (1)

Cascade (River of Time # 2) by Lisa T. Bergren

Blurb (taken from Goodreads):

"Mom touched my underdress—a gown made six hundred years before—and her eyes widened as she rubbed the raw silk between thumb and forefinger. She turned and touched Lia’s gown. “Where did you get these clothes?”

Gabi knows she’s left her heart in the fourteenth century and she persuades Lia to help her to return, even though they know doing so will risk their very lives. When they arrive, weeks have passed and all of Siena longs to celebrate the heroines who turned the tide in the battle against Florence—while the Florentines will go to great lengths to see them dead.

But Marcello patiently awaits, and Gabi must decide if she’s willing to leave her family behind for good in order to give her heart to him forever."

Why I want to read it:

After reading the first book in the series, Waterfall, and participating in the weekly Waterfall Wednesday Read-Along event hosted by Tina at Tinasbookreviews, Joy & Serena at Edgy Inspirational Romance, Nic at Irresistible Reads, Jenny at Supernatural Snark, and Missie at The Unread Reader. I can honestly say that reliving my love of the first book has made me extremely eager to get my hands on the second book in this amazing series. Although, I must admit that I’m a little afraid to read the rest of this series because I don’t want the magic to end too soon for me.
